Mission
The Opto-Mechanical Engineer will lead the design, analysis, and prototyping of mechanical assemblies for precision optical systems. This role involves ensuring optical alignment, structural stability, and system performance under diverse operational conditions. The engineer will also contribute to the setup of laboratory infrastructure and definition of workflows for prototype development and testing.
Responsibilities
Mechanical Design and Prototyping
- Design and 3D model mechanical structures for optical components ensuring precision and robustness.
- Develop and integrate mechanical supports and actuators for ambient, cryogenic, or vacuum environments.
- Perform structural and thermal simulations using finite element analysis tools.
- Define tolerances and alignment strategies based on mechanical constraints and material behavior.
- Create detailed technical drawings in accordance with international standards.
- Prototype and test opto-mechanical systems and support integration activities.
Laboratory and Infrastructure Setup
- Support selection of equipment and definition of lab workflows.
- Design custom fixtures for metrology and environmental testing.
- Establish calibration, cleanliness, and safety protocols.
System Integration and Validation
- Coordinate fabrication and assembly of parts with internal and external partners.
- Assist in system integration, alignment, and performance validation procedures.
- Apply design-for-manufacturing and design-for-reliability principles.
Project Support and Communication
- Document technical work and maintain up-to-date design records.
- Participate in design reviews and multidisciplinary project planning.
- Interact with suppliers and collaborators to align technical deliverables.
- Report results and progress to internal and external stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Experience with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, or equivalent.
- Proficiency in structural and thermal simulation tools.
- Knowledge of mechanical design, dimensioning, tolerancing, and material selection.
- Experience developing opto-mechanical interfaces and assemblies.
- Strong problem-solving, self-management, and teamwork skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish.
- Proficiency in office productivity tools.
