Mission

The RF Lab Engineer will be responsible for the setup, automation, and optimization of a cutting-edge photonics and RF laboratory. By ensuring precision in measurement systems, managing data workflows, and supporting cross-functional engineering teams, this role plays a key part in accelerating the development of advanced wireless optical communication technologies.

Responsibilities

Laboratory Operations & Infrastructure

  • Manage and maintain photonics and RF laboratory infrastructure, ensuring optimal functionality and calibration of all instrumentation.
  • Set up complex measurement environments using lasers, power meters, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, interferometers, and related systems.
  • Oversee the automation of measurement setups and test benches to ensure reproducibility and throughput.

Characterization & Data Analysis

  • Execute high-precision photonic and RF measurements, including photonic integrated circuit (PIC) characterization.
  • Develop data acquisition pipelines and analyze experimental results to guide system and component optimization.
  • Apply rigorous measurement protocols with attention to precision, accuracy, and traceability.

Process Automation

  • Implement instrumentation control using Python, MATLAB, or LabVIEW, interfacing via GPIB, USB, RS232, Ethernet, and VISA protocols.
  • Create reusable scripts and automated workflows to streamline testing, improve repeatability, and reduce manual intervention.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with R&D teams (photonics, RF, electronics, systems) to contribute technical insights that impact product design.
  • Provide lab-based experimental support to prototyping, integration, and validation phases.

Documentation & Standardization

  • Develop and maintain detailed lab documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), test plans, calibration routines, and user guides.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Physics, or related discipline, with specialization in laboratory characterization techniques.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in a photonics, RF, or electronics lab environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of test instrumentation and lab equipment (e.g., lasers, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, waveform generators).
  • Proficiency in instrumentation control using communication protocols (VISA, GPIB, RS232, USB, Ethernet).
  • Proven experience with Python, MATLAB, or LabVIEW for test automation and data acquisition.
  • Deep understanding of measurement systems, uncertainty analysis, and calibration practices.
