Mission

The Engineer in Photonic Foundry (GaAs Technology) will play a vital role in the development and optimization of integrated photonic devices based on Gallium Arsenide (GaAs). Working closely with cross-functional teams, the engineer will contribute to the simulation, layout, fabrication, and characterization of high-performance optoelectronic components. This entry-level role is designed for technically strong, detail-oriented individuals eager to grow within a fast-paced environment where innovation and precision converge in advanced photonics.

Responsibilities

Photonic Design and Simulation

  • Participate in the design, layout, and simulation of GaAs-based photonic integrated circuits.
  • Work with industry-standard tools such as Lumerical (FDTD, MODE), COMSOL Multiphysics, and IPKISS or Cadence for photonic modeling and circuit development.
  • Apply Process Design Kits (PDKs) and perform Design Rule Checking (DRC) during layout validation.

Process Development and Fabrication Support

  • Support the development and fine-tuning of GaAs device fabrication workflows.
  • Collaborate with process engineers to identify and resolve performance and yield issues.
  • Ensure compliance with cleanroom protocols, safety regulations, and process documentation standards.

Characterization and Testing

  • Conduct electrical and optical measurements of photonic devices, including lasers, modulators, and detectors.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as optical spectrum analyzers, probe stations, and power meters.
  • Perform data acquisition and analysis using Python, MATLAB, or similar scripting tools.

Documentation and Technical Communication

  • Maintain accurate records of design iterations, experimental data, and fabrication steps.
  • Contribute to technical documentation and project reports.
  • Participate in internal technical reviews and knowledge-sharing sessions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Applied Physics, Photonics, Materials Science, Optoelectronics, or a closely related field.
  • At least 6 months of academic, research, or industrial experience in integrated photonics or III-V semiconductor technologies.
  • Solid foundation in semiconductor device physics and optoelectronic component behavior.
  • Hands-on experience with photonic design and simulation tools (e.g., Lumerical, COMSOL, KLayout, IPKISS, Cadence).
  • Basic knowledge of cleanroom microfabrication techniques (e.g., photolithography, deposition, etching, metallization).
  • Familiarity with optical/electrical test setups.
  • Proficiency in Python or MATLAB for data analysis and automation.
  • Fluency in technical English, both written and spoken.

Preferred Experience

  • Previous internship, thesis, or laboratory experience in GaAs-based device design or fabrication.
  • Experience working in a cleanroom environment under ISO or similar quality systems.
  • Knowledge of wafer bonding or advanced III-V integration processes.
  • Familiarity with multidisciplinary collaboration involving design, process, and test teams.
