Mission
The Optics Design Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing advanced optical modules for next-generation metrology and inspection systems. This role combines in-depth knowledge of optical physics with strong engineering execution, contributing directly to the system's performance, manufacturability, and robustness. The engineer will lead optical design efforts, simulations, prototyping, and validation processes, ensuring the successful implementation of high-precision optical subsystems in complex, integrated platforms.
Responsibilities
Optical Design and Analysis
- Design and develop optical modules and subsystems aligned with system architecture and product requirements.
- Conduct detailed optical modeling and simulation (e.g., ray tracing, wave optics, stray light, aberration analysis) using tools such as Zemax, Code V, or equivalent.
- Define optical tolerances, conduct error budgeting, and ensure alignment with performance specifications.
- Prepare comprehensive design documentation, including specifications, design rationales, and interface definitions.
Prototyping and Experimental Validation
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assemble and test optical prototypes.
- Design and execute laboratory experiments to validate optical performance and investigate deviations.
- Analyze measurement data to identify and correct performance issues.
Design Integration and Industrialization
- Work closely with systems engineering, mechanical design, and manufacturing teams to integrate optical designs into full systems.
- Provide technical support during transition from design to high-volume manufacturing.
- Ensure designs comply with manufacturing constraints, cleanliness requirements, and reliability standards.
Innovation and Continuous Improvement
- Investigate novel optical architectures, materials, and fabrication techniques.
- Contribute to internal design methodologies, simulation workflows, and knowledge sharing across engineering teams.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree or higher in Optical Engineering, Physics, Photonics, or related discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in optical system design, preferably in precision instrumentation or semiconductor equipment.
- Proficiency in optical design software such as Zemax OpticStudio, Code V, or FRED.
- Strong understanding of optical system alignment, tolerancing, and image quality metrics.
- Hands-on experience with optical testing and metrology techniques.
- Familiarity with optomechanical integration and environmental sensitivities (thermal, vibrational, contamination).
- Ability to communicate complex optical concepts clearly to cross-disciplinary teams.
