Optical Fiber Development Engineer

Mission
The Optical Fiber Development Engineer will be responsible for developing and improving optical fibers and laser beam guidance systems, combining experimental photonics expertise with manufacturing-oriented engineering. The role will design concepts and production processes, plan and evaluate experiments, characterize optical and mechanical properties, and collaborate across technical and commercial functions to translate development work into reliable and manufacturable solutions.
Responsibilities
Optical Fiber and Beam Guidance Development
- Develop and continuously improve optical fibers and laser beam guidance systems.
- Perform laser processing of optical fibers as part of development and manufacturing process activities.
- Create technical design concepts and translate development requirements into practical engineering solutions.
Manufacturing Process Development
- Develop manufacturing processes for optical fiber and beam guidance products.
- Work closely with manufacturing teams to ensure that development concepts can be implemented reliably in production.
- Support the transition of technical developments into controlled and repeatable manufacturing processes.
Experimental Development and Characterization
- Plan, execute, and evaluate experiments related to optical fiber technologies and associated systems.
- Select appropriate measurement methods according to experimental and development requirements.
- Test and measure relevant optical and mechanical properties and analyze the resulting data.
Cross-functional Collaboration and Documentation
- Collaborate with manufacturing, quality management, and product management throughout development activities.
- Work with customers in domestic and international environments on relevant technical topics.
- Maintain clear technical documentation and ensure appropriate traceability of development, experimental, and measurement activities.
Required Qualifications
- University degree in physics, photonics, or a comparable technical or scientific discipline.
- Professional experience in optical fiber development, photonics, laser processing, or a closely related field.
- Experience working with CAD systems, particularly SolidWorks.
- Demonstrated scientific and analytical thinking supported by relevant professional or technical achievements.
- Ability to independently plan and execute technical development and experimental activities.
- Fluent German and English language skills.
- Strong communication and teamwork capabilities.
- High level of reliability, attention to detail, and ability to quickly understand complex technical subjects.
Preferred Experience
- Experience developing or improving optical fibers and laser beam guidance systems.
- Practical experience with laser processing of optical fibers.
