Mission
The Software Engineer will be responsible for developing, industrializing, and continuously improving Python-based software solutions for automated measurement, testing, and optical assembly systems. Working within an interdisciplinary R&D environment, the role will design system-level solutions for distributed architectures, evolve research software into production-ready applications, establish scalable software infrastructure, and ensure robust operation through structured testing, debugging, and error analysis.
Responsibilities
Software Development and Automation

Develop and implement internal Python software solutions for controlling and automating optical assembly and measurement processes.

Develop measurement and evaluation software for the characterization of laser diode modules, including simple user interfaces for internal users.

Translate technical and operational requirements into reliable software applications for laboratory and production environments.
System Architecture and Integration

Integrate system-level software solutions into distributed architectures and continuously optimize their performance and maintainability.

Contribute to the long-term development of a scalable software infrastructure for Python applications.

Develop solutions interfacing with technical environments involving optics, metrology, production equipment, and related systems.
Software Industrialization and Quality

Further develop existing R&D software and transform experimental solutions into robust, production-ready applications.

Define test cases in coordination with interdisciplinary team members and take responsibility for creating and executing unit tests.

Develop and execute integration tests where applicable to ensure reliable interaction between software and connected systems.
Debugging and Technical Collaboration

Independently perform debugging, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis for application and system problems.

Maintain clear and comprehensible technical documentation and use established version-control practices.

Collaborate closely with specialists across software, physics, mechanics, optics, metrology, production, and IT.
Required Qualifications

University degree in computer engineering, computer science, physics, automation technology, or a comparable technical discipline.

At least 5 years of professional experience in IT and software development.

Expert-level Python knowledge acquired through substantial professional software development experience.

Proven experience successfully delivering software development projects.

Experience developing software with interfaces to technical systems or disciplines such as mechanics, optics, metrology, production, or IT.

Experience creating and executing unit tests and applying structured software quality practices.

Familiarity with common version-control systems and disciplined technical documentation.

Structured, analytical, and solution-oriented approach to software development and problem solving.

German and English proficiency at C1 level or above.
Preferred Experience

Knowledge of LabVIEW alongside advanced Python expertise.
