Mission
The Quantum System Engineer will be responsible for commissioning, operating and continuously improving advanced quantum computing systems while ensuring their long-term stability and operational performance. Working at the intersection of atomic physics, software engineering and hardware integration, the role will develop and optimize quantum control systems, support complex scientific infrastructure and contribute to the reliable operation of production-grade quantum computing platforms.
Responsibilities
Quantum System Operations and Commissioning

Build, commission, troubleshoot and optimize quantum computing hardware and associated control systems.

Support the deployment, integration and long-term operation of scientific infrastructure for quantum computing platforms.

Ensure stable, reliable and high-performance system operation through proactive monitoring and continuous improvement.
Software and Control Systems Development

Develop, optimize and maintain deterministic, low-latency software supporting production quantum operations.

Improve orchestration layers coordinating GPUs, FPGAs and custom electronic systems for synchronized quantum control.

Contribute to the development of robust software interfaces connecting hardware and control architectures.
System Reliability and Performance

Apply knowledge of quantum computing and atomic physics to identify potential system failure modes and improve operational reliability.

Troubleshoot complex hardware-software interactions and implement corrective actions to maximize system availability.

Support continuous optimization of system performance through data analysis and engineering improvements.
Cross-functional Collaboration

Collaborate closely with physicists, hardware engineers and software development teams to support system integration and operational excellence.

Maintain engineering documentation and contribute to best practices for commissioning, testing and operational support.

Participate in an on-call rotation to support critical system availability when required.
Required Qualifications

PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Engineering or a closely related discipline, or equivalent industrial experience.

Strong experience in software development using C++, Python and/or Rust.

Experience with real-time control systems, FPGA development (VHDL or Verilog) and/or GPU programming using NVIDIA CUDA.

Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex hardware-software integrated systems.

Strong analytical, communication and collaborative problem-solving skills.

Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary engineering and scientific environments.
Preferred Experience

Experience working with quantum computing systems, atomic physics experiments or advanced scientific instrumentation.
